Director Matěj Chlupáček said he “chose to tell the story of ‘We Have Never Been’ because it communicates current and important topics, such as the position of women in society and the true story of intersex people, through an understandable genre concept of a mysterious detective drama, originally set in the 1930s Europe.” – Variety.com

“Ultimately a humane message movie planting flags for both women’s liberation and queer rights, this Karlovy Vary competition premiere could easily resonate with festival and arthouse audiences away from home turf.” – Guy Lodge, Variety (Read the full review)

SEAHORSE PARENTS
Director Miriam Guttmann | 2023 | USA | 9 minutes | in English
In the entire animal kingdom, seahorses are the only animals where the males undergo pregnancy. With the animal as a metaphor, pregnant transgender persons proudly call themselves ‘Seahorse Parents’. With her multimedia project Seahorse Parents, Miriam draws our attention to society’s views on pregnancy.
What is a pregnant body ‘supposed’ to look like? How do these pregnant transgender men navigate a biased world? And what world do the parents hope to bring their children into?
Includes Q&A with film subject Liam.
