Queer Thursdays Cinema – July 9 @ 7:30PM – I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO

Please note!

I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO is Cinestudio’s first film screening following the theater’s pandemic closure.
Outlined below are new guidelines/restrictions at Cinestudio that go even beyond what the State of Connecticut requires in Phase 2 of re-opening cinemas:
  • Limited capacity Cinestudio has 450 seats, and will only be making 25% of those seats available during a screening.
  • Deep cleaning and disinfection protocols in all settings. The theater lobby, seats, and restrooms will be deep cleaned before every show.
  • Select your seat in advance You may now look online at schematics of the theater (including balcony) and purchase one of the socially distanced seats where you – or your family group – would like to sit. Cinestudio’s website will automatically block off seats around the one/s you have chosen, so they will remain empty and unsold.
  • Contact-free ticket purchases If you prefer to purchase tickets at the door, we urge you to use a credit card. Your ticket will come with a designated row and seat number.
  • Face masks must be worn in all indoor public spaces – even once the house lights go down. Those in high-risk groups should continue to stay safe and stay home. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and seek medical advice. Cinestudio staff members will not be allowed to come in to work if they are feeling unwell or have a temperature. They will be wearing gloves and face masks at all times. Hand sanitizers will be on site.
  • Social Distancing will be observed both in the lobby and in the theater. Staff will be on hand to make sure this is followed. Inside the theater, there will be one-way entrance and exit aisles. If you are with a family group, you may sit together.
  • Please visit Cinestudio.org for more information and to purchase tickets.

In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Out Film CT presents a screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary film I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO, written by James Baldwin. In June 2019, Baldwin was one of the inaugural fifty American “pioneers, trailblazers, and heroes” inducted on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor within the Stonewall National Monument in New York City’s Stonewall Inn.

Master filmmaker Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished, Remember This House. The result is a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America, using Baldwin’s original words and flood of rich archival material. I Am Not Your Negro is a journey into black history that connects the past of the Civil Rights movement to the present of #BlackLivesMatter. It is a film that questions black representation in Hollywood and beyond. And, ultimately, by confronting the deeper connections between the lives and assassination of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., Baldwin and Peck have produced a work that challenges the very definition of what America stands for.

I Am Not Your Negro offers an incendiary snapshot of James Baldwin’s crucial observations on American race relations—and a sobering reminder of how far we’ve yet to go.”  – Rotten Tomatoes

“The film is unsparing as history and enthralling as biography. It’s an evocation of a passionate soul in a tumultuous era, a film that uses Baldwin’s spoken words, and his notes for an unfinished book, to illuminate the struggle for civil rights.” – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
