2nd Thursdays Cinema β March 9 @ 7:30 PM β FOX AND HIS FRIENDS
For Marchβs 2nd Thursdays we present a special night for fans of the German New Wave: the 4K restoration of Fox and His Friends. Brilliant, provocative and prolific, director Rainer W. Fassbinder made 33 films before his death at 36. Fox and His Friends (along with Ali: Fears Eats the Soul and The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant) is one of his very best. The director takes the starring role as a working class gay kid in Munich who wins the lottery, and along with it, a new apartment, friends, and an upper class lover whose family is in desperate need of cash. No one before or since has made films as erotic, theatrical, political, raw, and hauntingly poignant as hell.
βYears before Hollywood made its first faltering steps in the direction of a new frankness about homosexuality, Fassbinder was miles out in frontβ β Roger Ebert.
Written and directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Germany, 1979, 123 min.
