2nd Thursdays Cinema — March 8 @ 7:30 PM — CALL ME BY YOUR NAME
This film has been POSTPONED to 3/8 due to the Oscar season shuffle! Please accept our apologies.
Synopsis: In a year when the word ‘sexual’ invariably seems to be followed by ‘abuse’ or ‘harassment,’ Call Me By Your Name is a reminder that sexuality can be a joyful, consensual experience. Set ‘somewhere in Northern Italy,’ it covers one sun-kissed summer with the family of a classical archaeology professor (Michael Stuhlbarg): his Italian wife (Amira Casar), 17-year-old son Elio (Timothée Chalamet), and Oliver, his American graduate student assistant (Armie Hammer). The days pass in leisurely erotic tension, as the polyglot, precocious Elio and the comfortable-in-his-own-skin Oliver edge closer to reaching out for happiness and desire.
“Guadagnino wants us to reflect on love: on what a feast it can be, on how it turns with the seasons, and on why it ends in tears.” – Anthony Lane, The New Yorker.
Nominated for four Oscars: Best Film, Best Actor (for Timothée Chalamet), Best Adapted Screenplay (for openly gay filmmaker James Ivory) and Best Original Song (for Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love”)
