2nd Thursdays Cinema — December 8 @ 7:30 PM — MULTIPLE MANIACS
If you have been introduced to John Waters, Baltimore’s bard of bad taste, via the movie/musical/movie musical of Hairspray, hold onto your pearls and prepare to be shocked (and delighted)! Waters’ second film, never released in theaters, can now be experienced in a perfect new 4K restoration on the giant screen. Divine, though unknown, is already a black lipstick-wearing diva as the main attraction in a sleazy tent show called ‘Lady Divine’s Cavalcade of Perversion.’ Her carnival barker beau, David Lochary of Pink Flamingos, inexplicably looks for love elsewhere, sending Divine into a knife-wielding frenzy. We don’t want to spoil the ending, but know that along the way it will involve a raunchy encounter with Mink Stole in a Catholic Church, ravishment by a gigantic lobster, and the transformation of Divine into something like Godzilla.
“Obnoxious but not legally obscene.” – Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Joseph H. H. Kaplan.
(US, 1970, 91 min) Written and directed by John Waters. Cast: Divine, Mink Stole, David Lochary, Edith Massey, Cookie Mueller.
